Great Books to tell the Christmas Story

Many of us have special children in our lives and look for creative ways to tell the Christmas story so they understand the meaning of Christmas.  Here are two tellings of the Christmas story.  The first Mary's Choice allows us to ponder Mary's story of being an average girl asked to do a very important job.  The second Good News of Great Joy is a retelling of the iconic Christmas story.

Description:

Have you ever thought about Mary of Nazareth when she was a little girl? She had a Mama and a Papa and liked to run and play and listen to stories and sing songs. What special things about Mary led God to choose her to be part of His important plan? This delightfully winsome illustrated children’s book shows how God loves and blesses Mary as she grows from a baby to a young woman, preparing to make a very special choice. It shows how God also has a plan for your life, blessing your talents—your intelligence, your creativity, and your own unique voice. Taking Mary from her birth to the shepherds visiting the new baby Jesus in the manger, the illustrations by internationally collected fine artist Shelbee Mares bring Mary’s story to life with joyful color and whimsy, inviting young and old alike into Mary’s world.

My thoughts:   This is a great book that tells Mary's story in an artistic whimsical manner.  You get to see Mary from being a little girl and think of the anticipation of the Messiah they were waiting for through Mary obediently following God's plan through the birth of her son.

Description:

Author and illustrator Kelly Pulley presents familiar Bible stories in a fun and fresh style for children 4 to 8. Good News of Great Joy brings to life the amazing story of Jesus’ birth. The Magnificent Tales are enjoyable, rhyming Bible stories with clever art and clear lessons. These are stories that the whole family will enjoy, presented in an entertaining way that parents and grandparents won’t grow tired of reading and re-reading night after night. The humorous, contemporary illustrations will keep even today’s media-deluged kids laughing while they learn important biblical messages. Parents will love that their kids are asking to read Bible stories!

My thoughts:  I've been able to listen to the telling of the Christmas story for years and this is a great book to bring the pages of Luke Chapter 2 to life.  In very vivid images, takes the story that has been told for generations, and this rendition makes the story fun and wonderful for kids to enjoy.  This is part of the Magnificient Tales series which has more great titles including Food for the Fish  a great telling of Jonah and the Whale as well as upcoming books on Daniel and the Lions Den and David and Goliath.
